Royal Enfield Himalayan unveiled in India

Royal Enfiled Himalayan, the first adventure tourer from Eicher group-owned motorcycle brand, was unveiled in India on Tuesday  ahead of its launch sometime later this year. Positioned below the company’s flagship model Continental GT, the Royal Enfield Himalayan will be made available in two versions – Off-road and City and is expected to be priced below Rs 2 lakh. At this price, the new Royal Enfield bike will become the most affordable adventure motorcycle in the country.

Powering the Royal Enfield Himalayan is a 411cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that is a bored-out version of the Classic 350’s engine. With single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and a counter balancer, the new engine is claimed to be the most refined engine ever built by Royal Enfield.

Mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox, this engine is capable of churning out a maximum power output of 24.5bhp at 6500rpm and a peak torque of 32Nm at 4000 – 4500rpm. The bikes comes with only electric-engine start option, as there is no manual kick-start option on offer. The company claims the new RE Himalayan to be a ”free-revving machine’ since it can run 10,000kms without changing oil.

While the off-road version of the Royal Enfield Himalayan features mounts for jerry cans on both sides of the fuel tank, spoke wheels and extended carriers, the regular version is kept devoid of these features in order to make it convenient to drive around city roads.
